XENOPOD-CV Tablet is a combination of Cefpodoxime Proxetil (200mg) + Clavulanic Acid (125mg) medicine used for treating a variety of bacterial infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, urinary tract, and uncomplicated skin infections. This medicine is not recommended for use in infants less than 3 months of age.

USES

Acute Bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitisThis medicine is used in the treatment of an acute worsening of chronic bronchitis, an inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubules, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae or some Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
Gonococcal InfectionThis medicine is used in the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea, a sexually transmitted bacterial infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Acute maxillary SinusitisThis medicine is used in the treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis, an inflammation of the sinuses, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, etc
Community acquired pneumoniaThis medicine is used in the treatment of an acute community-acquired pneumonia, which is a most common type of lung infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus Influenzae, etc.

Pharyngitis/TonsilitisThis medicine is used in the treatment of Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis, which is an inflammation of the tonsils/throat, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
Urinary Tract InfectionThis medicine is used in the treatment of infections of the urinary tract caused by Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae or Staphylococcus saprophyticus or Proteus mirabilis
Skin and Skin Structure InfectionThis medicine is used in the treatment of uncomplicated infections of the skin and skin structures caused by bacteria. These infections may include infected wounds, folliculitis, abscesses, cellulitis, ulcers, etc
Acute otitis mediaThis medicine is used in the treatment of an acute middle ear infection (otitis media) which may be caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, etc

CONCERNS

01.Onset of action

The effect of this medicine can be observed within 2 to 3 hours of oral administration.

02.Duration of effect

The effect of this medicine lasts for an average duration of 12 hours after onset of action.

03. Is it habit forming?

No habit-forming tendencies were reported

04.Usage while breast-feeding?

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary.

05.Usage in pregnancy?

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary.

06.Safe with alcohol?

Abdominal pain
Dark or Clay colored stools
Decreased appetite
Blurred vision

When Not To Use

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to cefpodoxime, other beta-lactam antibiotics, clavulanic acid derivatives, or any other inactive ingredients present along with these medicines

Dosage

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

Warnings for special population

Pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. If the medicine is used, the infant should be monitored closely for any undesired side effects.

General warnings

Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea

Discontinue the use of this medicine as per the doctor’s instructions if severe diarrhea occurs after receiving this medicine. This medicine may cause an imbalance in the microbial flora of the large intestine, decreasing the gut-friendly bacteria and promoting the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile, resulting in severe diarrhea.

Drug resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Use in children

This medicine is not recommended for use in infants below the age of 3 months since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Impaired Kidney Function

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with an impaired kidney function due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of kidney function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.

Use this medicine exactly as advised by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts than advised/prescribed. Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable side effects. Ensure that the treatment course is completed. Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor.
